How Opal Gypsy became Jewelry by Thandie:
I created this business 7 years ago under a different name, with different goals, and ran it with my mamma Tania, who some of you may know. That changed this year (2020) when Opal Gypsy became Jewelry by Thandie and we shifted the path of our business. I didn’t want to continue to operate under a name that romanticized and erased the plight of Romanian people. I knew I wanted to be more than just a jewelry shop - I wanted it to be a space where other female artists could grow and share their work alongside my own.

 I was longing for a community of women who empowered each other. I found what I had been too scared to look for as a child, and what I didn't know I'd need as an adult. I found the Ladysmiths of Atx, a community of female makers that have helped each others businesses thrive - and have a shop where my work will be featured alongside 15 other jewelers at Canopy, in Austin. I’ve been allowing myself to be vulnerable again, and am slowly getting out of my comfort zone. 

This led to a shift in perspective, and put me on the path of rebranding and re-imagining my business. Now we are an amazing group of women makers who have our own unique styles and stories. Currently we are the home of @Verga-Designs-Atx @deviledegghead @rachel.salome.jewelry and @jewelrybythandie.Our goal is to provide you with jewelry that is as one of a kind as you, and to make pieces that fit every price range.

 Each of our pieces are made with genuine stones and in sterling silver, 14k gold, or gold-filled. Then some are rhodium plated to achieve the black metal look, or gold plated over the silver. We can customize (almost) every ring size to fit you perfectly, because beauty does not come in one size. With each purchase, you will help our small business continue to grow and flourish so that we can help other women do the same!
